RAGE OF THE COMMUNITY: BUSHBUCKRIDGE
The community of Welverdiend in Bushbuckridge descended on the South African Police Service: Hoedspruit Police Station to hand a Memorandum of Demands. Mr. Silence Mabunda was injured on the 14th December 2016 when Mr. Mark Scott-Crossley allegedly hit him with a car and drove off from the scene.
Mr. Silence Mabunda through the assistance of the community laid a charge with the SAPS: Hoedspruit Police Station and strangely Mr. Scott-Crossley is not yet arrested. The community therefore submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate arrest of Mr. Scott-Crossley who in 2005 assaulted his employee Mr. Nelson Chisale and then tossed him into a lions’ enclosure.
The community indicated that it is very displeased by the inaction of the SAPS: Hoedspruit Police Station for not arresting Mr. Scott-Crossley and urged the Provincial Commissioner to ensure that the demands for his immediate arrest are attended to with the necessary attention and speed. It furthermore indicated that it appears that the law is biased against black people and in favour of the rich white people.
Mr. Scott-Crossley was released on parole in August 2008 after he had been sentenced to five years after the Supreme Court of Appeals set aside his initial trial court life sentence. The community is incensed that it is over a month since he committed this heinous crime and the police have not yet arrested him. The community believes that Mr. Scott-Crossley is dangerous to the community and should therefore be arrested as soon as it is possible.
The police received the memorandum and promised to ensure that no stone is left unturned. The police were given fourteen (14) working days to meet the demands of the community in this regard.
