HLOHLOKWE:

Elderly women soccer players still await promised kits.
In May 2017, former Minister in the Presidency and now Minster of Energy Mr. Jeff Radebe made a promise to supply soccer kits to the elderly women soccer players in the Maruleng municipality. Eight months later the promise is not yet fulfilled and these elderly citizens are still waiting for the Minister to deliver on his promise. “Regard it as done” said the minister to a roaring applause and ululations.

Minister Radebe made this promise when he paid a courtesy visit to Hlohlokwe during a Service Delivery Imbizo. “I have friends who are in business and I will ask them to assist in the acquisition of the soccer kits” said Minister Radebe. That the promise is not yet fulfilled surely dampens the collective spirit of these elderly women as they continue to play their soccer without proper kits and suitable grounds.

Perhaps the dignitaries that flanked him should now remind the Minister of the long standing promise he made to these elderly citizens which remains unfulfilled. They should also be bold enough to convey to him the reality that service delivery was never improved above the level that it was when he visited. In fact the communities in Maruleng still rely on trucks to deliver water to their streets and that the Sekororo- Mametja Bulk Water Supply Project is still not completed since it was started on about July 2012.

It is obvious that the delivery of the soccer kits will improve the game for these senior citizens and that more efforts should be put in place by the government to ensure that suitable grounds are constructed in every village. This will go a long way in attracting more interest from other senior citizens to join in playing the game thus improving their health.
